Manchester United target Justin Kluivert has joined Serie A side Roma from Ajax for a reported fee of £15.85 million.
Jose Mourinho has been a known admirer of the 19-year-old for a long period of time, but the player has opted to join Roma ahead of the 2018/19 season.
Kluivert spent 11 years at the Dutch club but will now make the switch to Italy to continue his development.
The winger arrived at Roma airport and was greeted by hundreds of fans where he held the club’s scarf aloft in the air for photographs.
He will complete a medical at Roma’s training facility on Tuesday before being officially unveiled to the fans at the Stadio Olimpico.
United and Roma weren’t the only club interested in signing Kluivert, a host of other clubs were as well after an impressive campaign in the Eredivisie last season where he scored 10 goals.
He is the son of Ajax legend Patrick Kluivert, who recently recommended he stay at the Dutch club.
deal ‘I personally said to him maybe it’s better to stay one more year at Ajax, to make some kilometres, to be important for the team,’ Patrick Kluivert told ESPN.
‘He’s 19 years old. He’s still young, but he makes his own decisions, and as a dad, I have to stand behind all the decisions that he makes.’
Along with reaching the last four of the Champions League last season, Roma also finished third in the Serie A table.
